Refining is the process of taking precious metal which is not 99.99% pure, and converting it into pure “four nines” bullion. This is done at very high temperatures and is a highly specialised process.

Before refining takes place, the process of assaying is usually undertaken. This process involves drilling into the precious metal to take samples, which are then chemically analysed to determine the level of purity of the bullion.

After refining, barring is carried out. This is where the refined, molten precious metal is divided and cast into the required size and number of precious metal bars.

Staff who carry out refining processes are highly trained and certified to ensure that extremely rigorous standards are upheld and monitored.
